“The age of smartphones simply requires a modern, mobile Time tracking,” said Marco Schoolmann, Controller and Purchaser at Tell Bau GmbH and the main person responsible for the switch to the mobile time recording solution.
Founded in 1946 in the East Frisian town of Norden as a paving company, Tell Bau GmbH now employs around 250 people at four different locations in Germany. The company’s services range from road construction, civil engineering and building construction projects to sports facilities and coastal protection solutions. Their motto is to always be ready for innovation and optimization. The logical consequence was clearly the step into the digitalization of construction sites with 123onsite.
Time tracking by paper: a thing of the past since 2016
In view of the wide range of functions of 123onsite Tell Bau GmbH decided to focus its concentration on the Time trackingthe equipment management and the Photo documentation management. Since 01.01.2016, Time tracking on paper has finally been a thing of the past at Tell Bau.
The original plan to have 123onsite tested by just two or three columns was abandoned after a short time. The dress rehearsal took place at all four locations with all 200 or so industrial employees. “The simple handling of the app made this decision easy for us,” says Schoolmann. “But such a rapid and comprehensive changeover was still an achievement in terms of energy, no question.” Ninety ready-to-use smartphones were distributed, so that each column always has at least one person recording the data for themselves and their employees. The app requires 15 minutes of attention a day, after which times, equipment and weather data are recorded and – if necessary – photos of the construction site are documented.
Direct coordination with site manager and client possible
The younger employees naturally found it easier to use smartphones and apps. “Tell a 62-year-old foreman who has been recording his working hours on paper for over 40 years that he suddenly has to do it all on his smartphone,” says Schoolmann, describing the initial difficulties of the changeover. In the meantime 123onsite.dehas become firmly established in everyday working life: The employees appreciate the opportunity to report problems on the construction site via the Photo documentation directly with the site manager and client, no longer having to Construction diary no longer have to write it down, but rather speak it in and have direct access to their own data.

We do not want our employees to be completely monitored. Trust remains the basis of our collaboration. The digital Time tracking primarily serves as a work tool for us.

The changeover to the new time recording system took just six months. time recording system time recording system – an impressive time for a company of this size, which even surprised Marco Schoolmann: “I really thought that it would take a long time for the new mechanisms to take effect. I didn’t expect an app that can do so much to be so easy to use .”
